Auto Repair Shops Gain While Automakers Loose

Its true that economic recession has not left any industry untouched. The most badly affected is of course automotive industry. But despite the increasing industry gloom, there is a wing that has been consistently making profit. Wondering about it? Friends, its the auto repair shops and centers worldwide.

On one hand, when even the major automakers are facing heavy losses and are on the verge of bankruptcy, the auto repair centers are making the optimum utilization of this opportunity to make money. Being cash-strapped, the consumers are unable to buy any new car and this fact has been a boon in disguise. Car owners are taking their old cars to repair shops that in turn is helping repair centers make ample money.

Obviously, its always a wise decision to cling on to the money that you have in economic recession. With a number of job losses every month, one never knows what happens next. Save money. You may also try these fuel saving tips and save money.

Used Cars – Making Great Business

Since, no one has money at present to spend on any new vehicle, people are preferring used cars instead of new ones. Different car owners are getting a fair amount for their old cars. The centers that deal in old cars are cracking great deals for used cars. Inflation in buying of used cars is directly proportional to increase in business of auto repair. People buying used cars are taking their vehicles for repair to these centers. Good, for the repair center owners!! Atleast someone is gaining through amidst this recession.

Chrysler Forms Tie up With Fiat

Experiments are not new to Chrysler – one of US biggest automaker. Over the past years, Chrysler has come up with new owner and new management, but this time its a 'Business Alliance'. Chrysler has formed alliance with Italian automaker FIAT. This tie-up is being seen as lifeline for Chrysler that was recently on the verge of filing bankruptcy.

With this deal, the Italian automaker will have 35% of Chrysler. The other benefits that this alliance will offer include regaining of Alfa Romeo and Fiat in U.S markets. This would be possible through Chrysler's dealership network.

What is that will benefit Chrysler through this business alliance. Fiat will offer Chrysler product & platform sharing, small and big cars and would also bring fuel-efficient technology and the engineering that goes into its small cars.

Commenting on this agreement, Chrysler chairman, Robert L. Nardelli said, "It creates the potential for a powerful, new global competitor, offering Chrysler a number of strategic benefits.” It is believed that such an agreement between the automakers would help them develop a better business. Now this is to be seen that whether Fiat comes out to be a lifeline for Chrysler or not.

Canada Follows The Footsteps of U.S Government, Provides $4bn Loan

After US Government announced to provide $17.4bn to the save the automakers from bankruptcy, different nations have also got up from their sleep. Canadian government's has also stepped forward to provide emergency loan to the auto industry. The $4 billion auto loan that has been promised by the government will definitely give a boost to the automakers. Though the amount is mere 20% of that provided by the U.S government, it would prevent the automakers from collapsing.

Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper indicated that besides the $4 billion emergency loan, the government would also extend additional insurance to auto parts makers. The government is also on the lookout to come up with a program to finance consumer loans for new car purchases. Mr. Harper said, “I will not fool you, There is obviously money at risk here and there may well be more money at risk going forward. There are literally across the country hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of potentially affected families by the distress of this industry, We don’t want a package that simply helps the Detroit Three,”

While the governments are providing loans, the status of labor agreements between the car companies and the Canadian Auto Workers Union is still undecided. Earlier, the Canadian Union had refused to agree to a wage system by the United Auto Workers according to which new employees would work on a lower wage scale.
